cloisters
yesterday we went with a group from our church to a concert at the cloisters museum. the museum is basically a reconstruction of several european monasteries/churches/chapels that have been integrated into a single building. the concert consisted of music from the 12th, 14th, and 15th centuries and was pretty amazing. they performed in the fuentiduena chapel (a 12th century spanish chapel - and perfect setting for this music). both secular and religious pieces were performed. the use of instruments that i had never even heard of before was pretty cool. anyway, the rest of the museum was pretty cool, except for a bizarre belgian obsession with unicorns. the location of the cloisters is picturesque - with views of upper manhattan, the hudson river, and a heavily forested section of new jersey. i will definitely be heading up again sometime, and so should you.
